Absolutely, Umair. Thank you for articulating this problem so eloquently. Obviously, what you describe does not define all of the US or all of its 350 million inhabitants, but it describes enough of it and of us to birth the savagery and violence that you point to. The attitudes you elucidate in the essay trace back to the original colonial project of the US: Seize the land. Make a buck. Claw your way to the top of the shitheap. That is your mission. We are now seeing the results of that approach to living.
