The Ultimate Gift

The thing about the question of whether or not to vote for JB even though he is arming and funding an operation of mass killing against civilians pinned into a 142 mi.² sealed strip of land is that it puts 100% of the focus on the voter. That’s interesting. And I have been someone posing that ethical question of late. I fell into the trap set by the ultra-powerful in this country. A more relevant question would be: What are the corporate Dems going to do in order to earn a few more votes, persuade a few more voters? Biden’s nihilistic policy as regards Gaza is losing him votes among Arab Americans, Muslim Americans and Gen Z that he can ill afford to lose. I am a 57-year old straight white man raised Christian with radical anti-racist green politics. There are more of us than one might think; nonetheless, my vote is not the one the Dems need to be particularly worried about. It is the much larger voting blocks in swing states that should be of concern.

But since Bill Clinton, this is how the Democratic Party establishment has been run. They do not try to garner votes by offering popular policies. Rather, they adhere to their idiotic neo-liberal, weapons manufacturer-centric, whistling-in-the-climate-graveyard, 1%-friendly agenda and rely on getting votes through one primary mechanism: the fact that they are not as horrible as the fascist Republicans. A more cynical and prone-to-failure political program could not be conjured.

The ultimate gift: DJT is now a convicted felon. The guy is losing court cases (civil, civil, now criminal) faster than I am gobbling up slices of smoked gouda vegan “cheese.” And yet, JB is still poised to lose to the shambolic tub of shit that is El Donaldo. Of course, he is. It is precisely because of the corporate Dem strategy of the last 30 years as I have described it. At least under the shitty electoral college system, it is a losing strategy. And cruel. Very cruel. Just ask the departed souls of the children in G•za and the thousands of child amputees there.
